Members of the Herricks Public Schools Board of Education recognized Regeneron science talent search semi-finalists Carrie Hsu and Bhav Patel, two high school seniors who were among the top 300 scholars selected for this prestigious math and science competition. Each student was awarded $2,000 each.

At the Board of Education meeting on Jan. 30, Bhav presented his project, “Changes in neural connectivity underlying attention abilities before and after antipsychotic treatment in first-episode psychosis patients.”

He and his mentor decided to use MRI scans to find specific connectivity points of the brain to analyze attention abilities before and after treatment.

Board members also recognized Hsu for her project, entitled “Development of a frustrated total internal reflection biosensing system for non-invasive terahertz imaging and detecting cell growth.”

The board and administration congratulated these students on their extraordinary work and findings.
