Readers Write: Trump supporters, let the truth prevail

Trump supporters of the world, Unite! Right a wrong perpetrated by the biggest lie in the history of the United States. Let's look at what Trump factually said about about what really happened on Jan. 6 on a post that he himself made on Twitter on Jan. 7 as shown below and confirmed by CBS News on Jan. 8.

Then check out what two of his biggest supporters, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy, had to say about the man and the events on Jan. 6.

In a video Trump posted on Twitter on Jan. 7, he conceded the election and condemned the rioters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 as follows:

“I would like to begin by addressing the heinous attack on the United States Capitol. Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem. I immediately deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders. America is and must always be a nation of law and order.

The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. And to those who broke the law, you will pay. We have just been through an intense election and emotions are high, but now tempers must be cooled and calm restored. We must get on with the business of America.

“My campaign vigorously pursued every legal avenue to contest the election results. My only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote. In so doing, I was fighting to defend American democracy. I continue to strongly believe that we must reform our election laws to verify the identity and eligibility of all voters and to ensure faith and confidence in all future elections.

“Now Congress has certified the results. A new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.

“This moment calls for healing and reconciliation. 2020 has been a challenging time for our people. A menacing pandemic has upended the lives of our citizens, isolated millions in their homes, damaged our economy, and claimed countless lives. Defeating this pandemic and rebuilding the greatest economy on earth will require all of us working together. It will require a renewed emphasis on the civic values of patriotism, faith, charity, community, and family. We must revitalize the sacred bonds of love and loyalty that bind us together as one national family.

“To the citizens of our country, serving as your president has been the honor of my lifetime. And to all of my wonderful supporters, I know you are disappointed, but I also want you to know that our incredible journey is only just beginning. Thank you. God bless you, and God bless America.”

In a new video posted to Twitter on Thursday night, more than 24 hours after his supporters stormed the Capitol, President Trump said he is “outraged” by the “violence, lawlessness and mayhem” the day before. The president failed to condemn the violence as it was happening on Wednesday.

The president claimed he immediately deployed the National Guard. A senior administration official earlier told CBS News that the D.C. National Guard was activated on Wednesday after Vice President Mike Pence contacted Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley and acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller. While Mr. Trump has the power to immediately activate the National Guard, Pence does not — but shortly after Pence's call with the military leaders, the National Guard arrived.

The Mob Was Fed Lies': McConnell Rebukes Trump For His Role In Capitol Riot - Jan. 19, 2021, at 1:58pm as heard on Morning Edition.

For the first time since the Jan. 6 mob attack on the U.S. Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell publicly denounced President Trump and his supporters for instigating the insurrection.

“The mob was fed lies,” McConnell, R-Ky., said in a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday afternoon.

“They were provoked by the president and other powerful people, and they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government, which they did not like.”

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy says Trump ‘bears responsibility’ for Capitol riot  By Austin Williams Published Jan. 13, 2021 2:41pm EST News FOX TV Digital Team

WASHINGTON - As the House debated impeaching President Donald Trump for a second time, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy said Trump “bears responsibility” for last week’s pro-Trump Capitol riot that resulted in the deaths of five people, including a Capitol police officer.

The California lawmaker said Trump “should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding.”

The truth, directly from Trump, McConnell and McCarthy. Repeating the truth sure beats repeating the lies, especially when you consider the sources. I urge you all to check out the facts for yourself.  If you don't, what have you got to lose? We can lose, our democracy, our great country, the United States of America.

As an American, I'm tired of all the lies. Finally, let the truth prevail by repeating the truth. It sure beats repeating the lies. Hopefully, the Democrats will do it.
